US baseball legends here for baseball clinics

02/26/2011 - MANILA, Philippines - Major League baseball legend Ken Griffey Jr. will visit the Philippines as a Sports Envoy of the US Department of State from March 1 to 4,2011.

Joe Logan, a former player with the Montreal Expos and coach of the Orlando Reds, will accompany Griffey on this trip.

The baseball legends will conduct a series of baseball clinics in Manila and Cebu with Filipino coaches and players from different age groups and representing local leagues and programs throughout the country.

Clinics for coaches will focus on teaching the basics of teamwork and sportsmanship, identifying and developing talent, and leading practices and clinics.

Clinics for players will focus on developing fundamental baseball skills hitting, pitching, and fielding.

US ambassador Harry K. Thomas Jr., a big baseball fan who had coached a young boys team from a depressed area in Manila, will be at one of the clinics on March 1 at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium. (Manila Bulletin)
