MACTAN airport’s incoming general manager is more identified with infrastructure and bus lanes than airplanes.

10/21/2010 - MANILA, Philippines—The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) extended its condolence to the family of Marlon Cueva, an electrical technician who reportedly committed suicide Wednesday on a plane that landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

His family, according to administrator Carmelita Dimzon, will receive the death and burial benefits that OWWA members are entitled to.

Dimzon said OWWA would also award a scholarship to his eldest child, and would provide a “Negosyo Cart” to his wife as livelihood assistance. The cart comes with P40,000 worth of merchandise.

Cueva, 36, was found dead by an airline stewardess at the lavatory of a Gulf Air plane a few minutes before it landed at the NAIA Terminal 1 on Wednesday.

Cueva left for the United Arab Emirates last July for a two-year contract. He was from Lubang, Occidental Mindoro.

According to sources at the OWWA and the Department of Foreign Affairs, Cueva was let go by his employer at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates because he was acting weird.

A request for Cueva’s repatriation was relayed to OWWA by his sister on October 13.
