06/28/2010 - MANILA, Philippines - The deployment of policemen to secure the inauguration of President-elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III will start on Tuesday night to ensure the orderly flow of the historic event.
Superintendent Rommel Miranda, spokesman of the National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO), said deployed policemen will camp out in the Quirino Grandstand on Tuesday night and they will stay there until after the inauguration of the incoming president.
Earlier, the NCRPO announced that a total of 5,500 policemen and additional 1,000 police trainees will be deployed in the Quirino Grandstand, the center of activities, where President-elect Aquino will take his oath of office before Supreme Court Justice Conchita Carpio-Morales
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has finalized the security and pubic safety plan for the inaugural ceremony of Aquino as the 15th Philippine president on June 30, expected to be witnessed by thousands of people from all walks of life.
PNP Chief Director General Jesus Verzosa has approved an elaborate security and public safety plan in and around the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta in Manila, including the “no fly zone” in the area.
Verzosa said the PNP has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) declaring the airspace over Quirino Grandstand as a No Fly Zone for the duration of the inaugural ceremony, except for TV helicopters that were given special permission to take aerial footages.
A Notice to Mariners will also be issued for all types of seacraft in Manila Bay along the shoreline of the Quirino Grandstand and Ocean Park area.
“The presidential inaugural is not only a milestone in Philippine history, but more importantly, it's a symbol of the triumph of democracy thru the smooth transition of government authority to the incoming administration by way of an honest, orderly and peaceful elections," Verzosa told PNP unit commanders involved in the security operations for the presidential inaugural.
PNP Task Force “Panunumpa” headed by Deputy Director General Jefferson Soriano met with the national organizing committee and other agencies involved in the inaugural activities, including the Presidential Management Staff, Presidential Security Group, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Department of Health, local government units, etc.
Metro Manila Police chief Director Roberto Rosales said the entire NCRPO will be on full alert to provide security to all venues where inaugural ceremonies and related activities will be held.
Verzosa also approved the deployment of augmentation forces from Central Luzon and Calabarzon to assist NCRPO in the security operations.
The Manila Police District will strictly implement a traffic re-routing plan and parking scheme in areas surrounding the Quirino Grandstand. (Philstar.com)
